Perryville, Tenn.—Multiple agencies continue the search this morning for a 19-year-old girl who fell from the Alvin C. York Bridge and into the Tennessee River at Perryville early Sunday morning.
The family of Katelyn Campbell is asking for prayers and have been at the scene since the search began around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Decatur County Sheriff Keith Byrd told WENK/WTPR Sunday morning that it is believed the girl was with two other young people who were planning to paint graffiti on the bridge. They were climbing the catwalk when Katelyn fell. Byrd said it is an 80 foot drop from the catwalk to the water.
The family released photos of Katelyn to the media and said she was wearing a white shirt and cut-off jean shorts. She had just turned 19 last week.
Emergency personnel are asking all boaters in the Tennessee River Bridge area (Decatur and Perry County) to stay clear while the rescue operations are underway.
Sheriff Byrd asked community members also to stay away from the site. Byrd said boaters and community members can stay on the west side of the river and away from where the dragging operations are occurring on the east side.
