Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man was arrested early Monday morning on multiple charges after a vehicle chase in which he attempted to hit a police cruiser. The man jumped out of his Jeep while it was still moving which endangered his passenger and the chase continued on foot.
Thomas Bryant, age 25, of Salem Church Rd., is in the Obion Co. Jail on charges of aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and driving on a revoked license.
Union City Police attempted to stop Bryant on the revoked license charge at the 500 block of West Main Street. After activating lights and siren, Bryant refused to stop and continued down West Main St.
Another officer attempted to pass him to get in front of him and Bryant attempted to veer his car to the left to sideswipe the cruiser. Bryant then continued on West Main St. and went off the road at 2501 W. Main St., stopping behind the First Pentecostal Church, where he bailed out of the Jeep on foot.
According to the report, Bryant jumped out of the Jeep while it was still in drive and the vehicle kept moving forward with a passenger, Jessica Naugle, in the front seat. She could not control the vehicle which put her life in danger.
Meanwhile, Bryant ran down into a ditch where officers ordered hi to stop and get on the ground. Bryant then ran up the opposite embankment and after searching the wood line, officers found him hiding in the brush. He was commanded several times to stop and get on the ground, but he kept running and was tackled by Officer Lively and placed under arrest.
