Camden, Tenn.—Long-time Camden radio personality Charlie Baylor passed away Monday. Baylor first worked for Camden Radio in 1965 at WFWL after a stint at WTPR in Paris. Baylor also had worked for WPHC in Waverley and WKTA in McKenzie.
In all, Baylor was a part of Camden radio for some 50 years.
Bobby Melton, known as “Flash” to his friends, has worked with Baylor for years at Catfish Radio, and said, “Charlie was a beloved member of not only our stations but the entire community.”
Melton said Baylor was an original member of the staff of WRJB when the station signed on the air in 1976. He left around 1991 working at stations in Florida and George and returned to Catfish Radio in Camden a few years ago.
Melton said, “Charlie did it all in his career. From high school sports; man at the fair broadcasts, community parades, recording commercials, emceeing womanless beauty revues, playing records and everything in between. You could always count on Charlie.”
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
