Obion County Residents Warned Of Scam Involving Threats

Union City, Tenn.—The Obion County Sheriff’s Office has been notified of at least three attempts by individuals to collect money from local persons with threats of arrest warrants.

Chief Deputy Kent Treece said the victims in the scam attempts received phone calls from an individual identifying himself as a deputy, telling them that arrest warrants had been issued for them for failure to appear on a jury summons.

Treece said the caller then advises them of an amount that could clear the matter up and further advises them to obtain a temporary credit card, with amounts of $500 to $3,000 to be deposited on the card.

Treece reminds citizens to never release any personal information to anyone who calls with this type of demand or request and said this is not normal procedure by law enforcement to serve a warrant or to collect any fines.

Treece asked that anyone receiving such a call should call the Obion Co. Sheriff’s Office.
