Paris, Tenn.—The Farmers Market will be returning to the Henry County Fairgrounds this year.
The Farmers Market was held for the past couple of years in downtown Paris, but Downtown Paris Association Executive Director Kathy Ray said it has outgrown its location at the corner of Ruff and North Market.
Fair Board President John Perkins said, “The Fairgrounds has always been an option for the farmers market but they wanted to be downtown. With the increase in farmer participation in the market, the Fairgrounds provides a larger area.”
“We’ve enjoyed having the market downtown and promoting the farmers,” Ray said, “but at the end of the day, the market has outgrown its location on the corner of Ruff and North Market. The fairgrounds, with its additional space and pavilion will be a better fit.”
When the market moved downtown there were two vendors, according to Ray. “With the help of our Downtown Paris App, Facebook page and increased highway visibility, they were able to swell their numbers to 28 vendors in 2017,” she said.
Available items included corn, tomatoes, okra, beans, squash, cantaloupe, watermelon, cucumbers, eggplant, peaches, and potatoes, as well as local meat, eggs, honey, homemade jellies, jams, breads and heirloom vegetables.
An announcement as to when the Farmers Market will open for the season will be made later.
