Union City, Tenn.—Two people were seriously injured during last night’s severe storm in Union City, according to an update provided Sunday afternoon by Obion County Emergency Management Agency Director Danny Jowers. He said eight to ten dwellings are destroyed and 41 others sustained other damage.
Overall, he said, the county dodged a bullet with the severe storms moving through the area last night causing widespread damage and one fatality in Logan Co.
The good news in Obion County is that “We did not suffer any fatalities but two people were taken to Baptist Hospital with serious injuries. As of now we have 8 to 10 occupied dwellings destroyed and 41 others with some type of damage.”
The National Weather Service out of Memphis will officially determine what type of an event caused the damage,” he said.
Jowers concludes his statement: “I especially want to thank everyone in emergency response for their efforts. This includes the Obion County Sheriff’s Department, Obion County Rescue Squad, Union City Fire Department, all the volunteer fire departments from around the county who responded, Dyer County EMA, TEMA and of course Gibson Electric along with Union City Electric for their excellent job in restoring power to the affected area. I also want to thank the Red Cross for responding last night and again today and assisting those affected by the storm. Our local Lowe’s also had a team delivering water and items to those affected. We have a great community and it showed last night and today with the outpouring of help and concern. If I missed mentioning anyone I am sorry. We will continue our efforts in assisting those affected by the storms.”
