OBION COUNTY, TN — Ridgemont was recognized yesterday as a recipient of a prestigious TVA STEM Award, celebrating the school’s commitment to innovation and excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.
Representatives from the Tennessee Valley Authority visited the school on April 22, 2026, to formally present the award and participate in a brief talk with the students and photo opportunity. Students involved in the project were in attendance, along with school administrators and community partners.
The event also included participation from local power providers, Gibson Electric Membership Corporation and Union City Energy Authority, highlighting the strong partnership between schools and community organizations in supporting STEM education.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our students and educators,” said Ridgemont Principal Melissa Merritt. “Opportunities like this help spark curiosity and inspire future careers in STEM fields.”
The TVA STEM Award recognizes schools that demonstrate outstanding efforts in promoting STEM learning and providing students with hands-on, real-world experiences. Ridgemont’s achievement reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and innovative learning opportunities.
