Graves County, Ky.–A mother and her seven-month-old baby were killed in an early-morning fire in Graves County.
At 1:17AM Monday, March 23, a 911 call reported that a residence was on fire located at 5363 Central Road. Caller advised that 5 persons were inside and that they were unable to get them out.
Graves County Sheriff’s deputies Andrew Prusaczyk and Austin Ramage arrived in scene within 6 minutes of the call.
They found that 3 persons had escaped the fire, however 2 persons were still inside, reportedly in the upstairs portion of the dwelling. Equipped with a sledgehammer and pry bars, the deputies were unable to gain entry due to the structure being fully engulfed in flames.
Fire departments from Sedalia, Cuba, and Wingo responded, as well as the Mayfield- Graves Fire and Rescue Squad. It took several hours to extinguish the fire, and just before 6 AM, the bodies of 19-year-old Arianna Teems, and her 7-month-old son Cole Walker were discovered in the rubble.
The Kentucky State Fire Marshals Office was called to the scene as well as the Graves County Coroner’s Office. The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office offers our thoughts and prayers to those involved.
Sheriff Jon Hayden said, “This has been a rough day for some families of those that died in separate incidents as well as our first responders; fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Coroner’s Office, and others that may have assisted. Please keep all of the above in your thoughts and prayers.” An Eddyville driver was killed in a two-vehicle fatality in Graves County today, also.
