DOVER, Tenn. – On Saturday, Dec. 13, members of the Stewart County community—along with visitors from across the region—will gather at Fort Donelson National Cemetery to participate in National Wreaths Across America Day. This national event is dedicated to the mission of Wreaths Across America: “Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom.”
The commemorative event will begin at 12 p.m. at the main entrance of the national cemetery. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Individuals who sponsored a wreath for a specific grave marker are asked to arrive by 11:30 a.m. to pick up their wreaths prior to the ceremony.
This event is presented in collaboration with Fort Donelson National Cemetery, a unit of the National Park Service, and the Douglas M. Lyons, Dover Post 72, American Legion. The local American Legion Post will place specially designated wreaths in honor of each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as for POW/MIAs. Wreaths delivered through the 2025 Wreaths Across America campaign will be placed on grave markers throughout the cemetery, honoring veterans from the Civil War through present day.

In 2024, more than 200 volunteers came together to place wreaths on each of the 1,717 grave markers at Fort Donelson National Cemetery.
Parking for those with accessibility needs or those attending only the ceremony will be available at the national cemetery parking lot, located at 174 National Cemetery Drive, Dover, TN.

Following the ceremony, American Legion Post 72 will host a social with hot/cold beverages and light refreshments at the W.D. Sykes Museum, located at 178 Cedar Street, Dover. Guests are also invited to enjoy the museum’s festive display of themed Christmas trees. Admission is free.
Safety is the top priority at Fort Donelson. As there are no heated facilities at the cemetery, attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable footwear, and bring water or snacks if needed.
