Paris, TN – West Tennessee Healthcare is proud to announce the reopening of its Geriatric Psych Unit at Lake Haven Behavioral Health on Tuesday, September 2. The unit, a vital part of the organization’s behavioral health program, has undergone significant renovations to better serve patients and families across the region.
Originally closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the unit has been redesigned and refreshed to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for older adults experiencing behavioral symptoms related to dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other cognitive conditions. The 10-bed unit is the only geriatric behavioral health facility of its kind in Henry County.
“Our team is excited to reopen this unit and return these important services to our community,” said Shelby McMillin, Director of Behavioral Health at West Tennessee Healthcare Lake Haven Behavioral Health. “We’ve enhanced the space to provide both emotional and medical support for seniors and their families, right here at home.”
The unit is designed to serve patients who may struggle with wandering, combativeness, disorientation, agitation, and other behavioral symptoms that require a structured and supportive setting.
Highlights of the renovated unit include:
- Private, safeguarded rooms, each with a personal bathroom
- 24/7 nursing care to assist with medications, detox, and activities of daily living • Access to physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and wound care as needed
- Daily group therapy led by licensed social workers
- Individual behavioral health support from West Tennessee Healthcare providers • Social activities designed to encourage engagement and well-being
The Geriatric Psych Unit complements Lake Haven’s existing Adult Behavioral Health Unit, which serves patients ages 18 to 55 with a wide range of mental health needs.
Visitation hours are offered daily, and most insurance plans are accepted. The unit will officially welcome patients beginning Tuesday, September 2.
