One In Stable Condition After Shooting At “Battle Of The Birds” Football Game

Mayfield, Ky.–Friday night’s shooting incident at the Mayfield-Graves County Football game left one adult in stable condition, Mayfield Police are now saying. The victim was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment after first being transported to the Jackson Purchase Medical Center.
The shooting took place in the 4th quarter during the “Battle of the Birds” rivalry game.
Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’Nan said in a statement, “May we remember who we are.”
Livestream coverage of the game showed players and bystanders scrambling off the field when the shots rang out.
Mayfield Police continue to investigate, but the shooter has not yet been identified or taken into custody. Detectives are collecting evidence, and processing the scene.
Mayfield Police said the shooting took place in a parking area adjacent to the War Memorial stadium.
The Mayfield Police Department was assisted by the Kentucky State Police, the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, Mayfield EMS, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF.)
Meanwhile, McCracken County and Paducah Tilghman came together after their game Friday night to pray for everyone in Mayfield and Graves County after gunshots rang out.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hilbrecht issued a statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors following the tragic shooting that occurred last night at the Mayfield High School game.
While this incident did not occur here in Marshall County, we know first hand how deeply these events affect families, schools, and the entire community. As your Sheriff, I want assure our citizens that we remain committed to the safety of our schools, sporting events, and community gatherings.
We stand ready to support our neighboring Law Enforcement Agencies in any way needed, and we will continue to work diligently to keep Marshall County safe.
