
Martin, Tenn.–A Martin man was arrested on domestic assault charges after Martin police officers found him hiding under a pile of clothes while waiting for the victim to gather her things. He is being held in the Weakley County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary.
The Martin Police Department received a call pertaining to an assault that had just occurred in the parking lot of 3J’s gas station on Elm Street at approximately 1:05am this morning (06/27/2025). Officers responded to that location to speak to the complainant, who was a bystander/witness to the incident.
During this time, a female victim arrived at the Martin Police Department to report the incident that she had just been involved in at 3J’s gas station. The victim provided information that she had been involved in a domestic dispute with Matthew E. King, 39 of Sharon, TN late Thursday evening. She had returned to her residence to gather some clothing so that she could stay somewhere else for the night. When she entered her home, Mr. King rushed inside and grabbed her by the arm and pushed her down as she tried to run out the front door. Mr. King then forced her back inside the residence and began to hit her while threatening her with a knife.
The victim and Mr. King were in the same vehicle together later and went to 3J’s gas station. When Mr. King entered the store, the victim jumped in the driver’s seat in an attempt to escape from him. Mr. King rushed out of the store and grabbed onto the vehicle and was punching the windows. When Mr. King fell off of the vehicle, the victim drove to the Martin Police Department to report the incident.
Warrants were issued for the arrest of Mr. King at this time, but he could not be located.
Charges issues were aggravated assault, especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary.
Today, (6/27/2025), at approximately 1:08pm, officers of the Martin Police Department went to the victim’s residence at 420 North McCombs St. to clear the residence so that the victim could gather some belongings. Mr. King was located inside the residence under a pile of clothing, lying in wait for the victim to return. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Weakley County Detention Center. He will be arraigned on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 1:00pm in Weakley County General Sessions Court.
