UT Martin Track Finishes Indoor Season Strong At OVC Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field team put forth a strong performance at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion.
The Skyhawk men finished seventh with a total of 28 points while the women’s team compiled 35 points for a ninth-place finish.
 
Point Scorers & School Records
  • The men’s distance medley relay team of Brady Millikin, Angus Monro, Samir Smith and David Stukey finished in second-place after clocking a time of 9:58.59 which also set a new school record.
  • In the women’s pentathlon, Meg Wiginton recorded a new personal best with a point total of 2,879 which earned UT Martin two points from her seventh-place finish. The freshman competed in the 60 meter hurdles (9.63 seconds), high jump (1.35m, PR), shot put (9.17m, PR), long jump (4.86m) and 800m (2:34.39).
  • Chadwick Stewart brought home three points for the Skyhawks after finishing in sixth during the 60m with a time of 6.96 seconds.
  • The women’s DMR team of Reese Settle, Maggie Roy, Janay Chapman and Rita Eimer claimed second-place and eight points after a time of 12:04.33.
  • Stewart raced his way to a point in the 200m after he crossed the finish line at 34.29.
  • Chapman earned two points after a seventh-place finish and a time of 7.80 in the 60m.
  • Tristen Bough established a new PR and scored three points with a 1:55.06 finish in the 800m.
  • Eliana Oquendo obtained three points from the 400m due to her PR of 57.06.
  • The men’s mile featured three point getters with Monro (fifth, four points, 4:15.68), Stukey (seventh, two points, 4:15.78) and Millikin (eighth, one point, 4:16.63) all helping UT Martin up its scoring total.
  • In the 800m, the duo of Eimer (fifth, four points, 2:16.75) and Roy (sixth, three points, 2:18.64) tallied seven points for the Skyhawks.
  • Ja’Kobe Ward ran a time of 8.25 during the 60m hurdles to bring in five points from a fourth-place finish.
  • Roy earned a spot on the podium after taking second-place (eight points) in the mile race, recording a time of 5:00.88 which was a PR.
  • Hank Fisher garnered a point for the Orange and Blue from his 12.98m throw in the shot put.
  • Five points came from JaDerrika Welch-Fields’ leap of 1.65m in the high jump which gave her fourth-place.
  • On Day 1 of the event, Stewart snapped the school record in the 60m with a time of 6.80 seconds.
  • Also on the first day of the competition, Chapman would break a 27 year-old school record in the 200m from a time of 24.98.
UT Martin will now prepare for the outdoor season beginning March 14-15 at the Rhodes Invitational.
