Students in Selena Barker’s ELL (English Language Learner) classes recently got a lesson that will help them now and for years down the road.

A field trip to the Obion County Public Library, where they toured and became familiar with the many features of the multi-faceted facility, enlightened and entertained the Union City Middle School students.

Led by tour coordinator and OCPL Director Carolina Conner, Barker’s classes learned of the library’s many available resources, including the schedule of community events.

Most students received their library cards and immediately put them to good use by checking out various books following the tour.

“I’m so appreciative of Mrs. Conner and the opportunity our ELL students had to do this,” Barker said. “There are so many great resources for our students and their families.

“They were so excited to get their library cards, and we’re hoping that the visit will encourage them to visit the Obion County Library on a regular basis.”
