
Water Valley, Ky.–After a foot chase through a densely wooded area, a man wanted for sexual abuse of a child was apprehended Saturday by Graves County Sheriff deputies.
The Graves County Sheriffs Office has an ongoing criminal investigation involving the sexual abuse of a child.
The suspect was identified as being 39 year old Alex N. Powell of the Water Valley area of Graves County. Arrest and search warrants were obtained Thursday and Powell’s residence was searched. Powell who was not present and went on the run from authorities.
Saturday afternoon, detectives received a tip that Powell was hiding out in an isolated wooded area off of Ky Hwy 2422 near the Camp Beauregard Cemetery. Multiple sheriffs deputies began a search of the area also utilizing a drone, being operated by Mayfield Fire and Rescue.
The suspect after being identified by the drone, began running through the densely wooded area where he ran up on deer hunters whom called 911.
A chase through fields, woods, and a water filled creek led to the capture of the suspect.
Powell was arrested and transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for medical clearance after stating that he had been using Fentanyl.
After the clearance, he was taken to an out of county detention center.
Powell was charged with Sexual Abuse of a Child Under the age of 16, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted felon and other charges.
