A group of more than 20 Union City High School seniors were recently enlightened regarding career opportunities during a tour of two local businesses.

In conjunction with Manufacturing Day, students got an extensive first-hand look at modern manufacturing during visits to Excel Boat Company and Tyson.

The exercise – organized by Workforce Innovations Inc. – also included students from Lake County High School.

The students saw up close the inner workings of the two companies. Workers showcased their duties and finished products as the businesses used the opportunity to energize a future pipeline of skilled and/or professional workers.

The UCHS contingent first spent 90 minutes at EBC before touring Tyson, where they enjoyed lunch provided by the company.

Among those Union City students who took advantage of the opportunity were Lyric Adams, Ava Aldridge, Lluvia Barron, Katana Bonds, Alan Calderon, Copeland Chism, Tucker Davis, Reagan Everage, Alexis Forrest, and Albert Hus.

Also enjoying the experience were Makahja Marshall, Trinity Murphy, Ryan Najeme, Lexi Petty, Jasmine Potts, Tay Richardson, Jennifer Rodriquez, Gloria Rosas, Mary Kate Sinclair, Nolan Tucker, and Jayla Turner.

“With tremendous opportunities to create our future and the significant impact manufacturing has on our economy, we need more young people and adults to envision their future in manufacturing,” organizers said.
