Paris, Tenn. – The Paris Utility Authority (PUA) Board of Directors met for its regular monthly meeting on September 24. Financials in all three departments were reported to be in good standing through two months of the fiscal year.
The first order of business was the approval of a $3 million water and wastewater bond resolution. The resolution is a modified version of a $4.6 million resolution that was previously approved in July. Planning and design funds for future wastewater projects have been removed from the proposed debt and will likely be funded by state revolving fund debt in the future.
Next, the Board approved signing of a Letter of Intent to partner with a private telecommunications company, TEC, to build a fiber optic network in the City of Paris and some areas that are outside the corporate limits. The new fiber optic network will enhance the electric, water, and wastewater systems by providing a more robust ability to monitor and control critical functions throughout the service area. Paris BPU infrastructure will become more efficient, resilient, and ready to meet the needs of the community. Additionally, the network will offer high-speed internet access to residents and businesses, bridging the digital divide and fostering local economic growth.
Finally, the Board approved a property conservation matching grant with Public Entity Partners..
The October meeting of the Board is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
