Union City was 36 strokes better than host Obion Central in a boys’ golf match Tuesday afternoon.
Copeland Chism shot 35 to earn medalist honors and pace the Tornadoes, who finished with 155 as a team. Brody Riley carded a 39, Logan Vincent registered a 40, and Finn Frankum came in with a 41 to cap UC’s effort.
The Twister girls’ team was also victorious, edging Halls 98-103 behind a match-best 41 by Alli Kate Frilling. Chloe Norton shot 57.
Union City is slated to play at Trenton on Thursday.
HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
Tornadoes bring home 3 medals
Ainsley Sadler and Ainsley Beard continued to rack up in the medal department for the UC girls, while Rushdon Howell did likewise for the Tornado boys in Huntingdon.
Sadler finished 10th among 124 girls in the 3.1-mile race with a time of 23:24. Beard placed 18th at 24:17.
Howell was clocked at 18:35 to come in ninth in a field of 161 boys.
Woodrow McKinnis (37th), Andrew Beard (42nd), and Wrigley Harder (49th) also competed for the Union City boys.
Tornado runners will compete at Crockett County next Tuesday.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Ridgemont 9, UC 6
Though they outhit R’mont 9-7, a half-dozen errors led to four unearned runs and contributed greatly to Union City’s setback.
Sadie Gregg tripled, singled, and drove in a pair of runs for the Lady Tornadoes. Sophie Palmer went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, Maddie Steward singled twice, and Averi Riley scored two runs for UC.
Amanda McPhearson had a base knock and scored a run.
Austyn Dilday was the losing pitcher.
Before the game, Union City honored Steward, Riley, Palmer, Annie Beth Cruce, and Khloe McGowan on 8th Grade Night.
HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
South Fulton 3, UC 2
After splitting the first four games, SF scored nine of the first 10 points and went on to claim the deciding set 15-7 to hand the error-prone Lady Twisters their third loss in nine matches.
Union City won Games 2 and 4, 25-18 and 25-23, but lost the opener 25-14 and Game 3, 25-21.
Madie Theobald had 21 assists and 14 saves to pace the Tornado girls. Addison Carr came up with 13 saves, while Brianna McBride was good for 11 saves and 11 digs. Gracelyn Sims was responsible for 13 kills, and Clare Atwill recorded 18 digs.
UC will play at Halls on Thursday.
