Murray, Ky.–It was a big night for Ja Morant, a big night for Murray State Basketball and a big night for Murray itself Saturday as Morant took his spot in the Murray State Athletics Hall of Fame. It was the biggest Hoopalooza event ever, with 700 people in attendance and $85,000 raised. Last year’s Hoopalooza drew some 200 people.

Morant has spent the weekend in Murray, hosting a youth basketball camp and reuniting with a host of former players and coaches. Morant currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies.

A humble Morant said, “I want to thank all of the fans for coming out on this special night and not only supporting me, but my family as wel. I appreciate it a lot. After, I’m pretty sure everybody knows, the recent events that happened, there were a lot of decisions you all could have made about whether you wanted to come out and support me or not, so to see you all here tonight means a lot.”

Among those attending were former star Racer basketball players Isiaiah Canaan and Camerion Payne. Speakers at the event included current Racer head coach Steve Prohm, former head coach Matt McMahon, Ja’s father Tee, and Morant himself.
Morant was the #2 pick in the NBA draft.
