Martin, Tenn.–An official of the Everett-Stewart Regional AIrport in Union City has confirmed the loss of one of its own in this morning’s small plane crash in nearby Weakley County.
Chairman Wayne McCreight said in a Facebook post around 2:30 p.m.: “It is with profound sadness that I report the loss one of our own this morning, Scott Rainey. Scott, a long term Evererett-Stewart Regional Airport Board Member, Aviator, and AG pilot, will be sorely missed. He was an outstanding board member, serving on our Personnel Committee and was Chairman of the Ag Committee. Words can be of little consolation at this time of grief and heartache, but we offer our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Judy, Brycen, and Garett. Please remember the Rainey family in your daily prayers.”
Reports are that Rainey was piloting a crop duster at the time of the accident.
As of 2:20 p.m., the City of Martin Fire/Rescue is still on the scene of a single engine plane crash in a wooded area near 957 Vancleave Road, Martin.
The accident occurred off of Van Cleave Road and is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.
