
Paris, Tenn.–Today at noon was the deadline for candidates for the August 1 election to return their ballots and it appears Henry County will have a few contests for public office.
For Henry County Mayor, Randy Geiger announced last week he is running for the office. Geiger is running as a Republican. And former State Representative Tim Wirgau has thrown his hat in the ring for the position, running as an Independent.
Current County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway earlier announced his pending resignation and has been hired as the next President of TCAT Henry/Carroll.
For Henry County Commission, District 1, two candidates are running: Retired Paris banker David Flowers and Henry County Bailiff Ted Kerrn are running for the seat that had been held by the late Randy Gean. Both Flowers and Kerrn are running as Independents.
Henry County Commission, District 5: Current Commissioner Jay Travis will be running for the seat. He is an Independent.
Henry County Assessor: There are two candidates: Scott Morrison, Republican; and Robert Abbott Jr., Independent are candidates.
County Road Board Commission Chairman: Matthew Craig, Independent; and Nathan Poe, Republican.
Constable District 5: Matthew Liotta and Timothy Vaughn, both Independents.
Constable District 1: Chad Farthing, Independent.
Road Board Comissioner District 5: Clarence “Roy” Henry, Republican.
Road Board Commissioner District 2: Don Norwood.
County Road Superintendent: Current Superintendent Richie Chilcutt, Republican.
Henry County School Board:
District 3: Jordan Beddies, Thomas Hayes, both running as Independents.
District 5: Jill Coker, Independent.
District 1: Russ Orr, Independent.
Paris Special Schools Board: Barry Flood, Melissa Klutts, both Independents. Troy Barrow was late to the deadline, but intends to run as a write-in.
State Senate: 24th District Senator John Stevens (Republican) will face opposition this time around, with Charles Cooper of Benton County, also a Republican, also running for the post.
State Representative Jay Reedy and State Rep. Tandy Darby running against for those positions. Both are Republicans. U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn and U.S. Representative David Kustoff also are running again. Both are Republicans.
