Services Set For Long-Time Henry County Educator Joy Call

Paris, Tenn.–Joy Call, a long-time Henry County educator, former principal of Atkins-Porter, Inman and Rhea Schools in Paris and a former Chamber Person of the Year, has passed away.

Joy was 80 and passed away at her residence in Paris. She formerly was of Cottage Grove for many years.

Joy was a 1961 graduate of Cottage Grove High School.  She continued her education by earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from UT Martin, and her Master’s Degree from Murray State University.

Joy worked many years with the Paris Special School District as a teacher, and retired in 1997 as an administrator, having served as Principal at Atkins Porter, Inman, and W.G. Rhea Schools.  She then worked with the Northwest Tennessee Headstart Program and later supervised student teachers from UT Martin.

She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women and received several awards.  Joy was named Chamber of Commerce Person of Year in 1987.  She was a member of Cottage Grove Baptist Church where she had taught Children’s Sunday School and willingly served in leadership roles throughout the years.

She was born April 11, 1943 in Paris, TN to the late Eddie Weldon “Pete” Call and the late Mae Dowdy Call.

Joy is survived by her sister, Sue Call of Cottage Grove; several cousins; and her special care givers.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St, Paris, TN.   No visitation is planned.  The graveside service will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Rose Lawn Mausoleum, 1695 US Hwy 69 North, Paris, TN.

Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
