
Murfreesboro, Tenn.–A Henry County student is the state winner of this year’s essay contest at the Tennessee Association of Fairs Convention in Murfreesboro.
Sophie Staggs of Puryear was announced as the state winner at the convention. She presented her winning essay, was presented an Award of Achievement certificate, a 250th Commemorative Boston Tea Party Coin, and was presented with a check for $500.
Sophie is the daughter of Katie and Junior Staggs of Puryear.
The Henry County Fair and The Tennessee Association of Fairs, in cooperation with the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution sponsored an America 250th Anniversary Essay Contest for all 4th & 5th graders enrolled in public schools, private schools or those being home-schooled during the 2023 Fair season. The topic of the 2023 contest was “The Boston Tea Party: The impact on our nation’s fight for freedom and the lasting effect it had on the British”.
The Henry County Fair’s 2023 contest was won by Sophie Staggs and Sophie’s winning essay was submitted to the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for state competition. A panel of judges determined the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place state-wide winners.
The Henry County Fair is proud of Sophie and to be the home of the first state winner. Be watching for information on next year’s contest coming soon.
