Braxton Clay Winfrey

Mr. Braxton Clay Winfrey, 67, of Big Rock, Tennessee, was called home to be with the Lord Friday, December 22, 2023, at his residence with his loving wife and children by his side.

He was born in Ashland City, Tennessee, Saturday, June 23, 1956, the son of George Braxton and Gladys Marie Davis Winfrey.

Clay, as he was fondly known as, was a hard worker and provider for his family.

He retired from the Register of Deeds office as the Department Clerk.

He continued working as County Magistrate of Stewart County for several years.

Clay proudly worked and served Stewart County for over 20 years.

He was a faithful servant and loved the Lord.

He was a member of Bethel Church of God.

Clay enjoyed traveling and seeing new places.

He was an avid camper and enjoyed having his family at the campground, cooking and playing games together.

Clay was a loving, kind and devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to many.

Clay is preceded in death by his mother: Gladys Marie Davis Winfrey.

He leaves behind his cherished family, wife of 16 years: Cynthia Myra Winfrey; children: William Thomas (Rebecca) Winfrey , Trevor Clay (Moriah) Winfrey, Tyler Cole (Jessie) Winfrey, Christie Marie (Eugene) Butler, and Kaycee Myra Sykes; brother: Randy (Donna) Winfrey; father: George Braxton Winfrey; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Bethel Church of God or Gentiva Hospice in memory of Clay.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff at Gentiva Hospice of Clarksville for the loving care and devotion given to Clay and the entire family.

A visitation and funeral service will be announced at a later date.
