Union City, Tenn.–Juniors Adeline Rice and Daisy Sanchez have been chosen to represent Union City High School in the 13th annual Vaughn RisingStar Youth Leadership Summit on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin.

The two-day conference – slated for Nov. 9 and 10 – is designed specifically for high school juniors in West Tennessee and is a byproduct of the WestStar Leadership program. The mission of the RisingStar Summit is to give student leaders across the area a chance to develop leadership skills and learn the importance of community involvement.

Students from several West Tennessee counties have been chosen to participate in the conference.

Rice and Sanchez certainly fit the criteria to be involved as students at UCHS.

Rice was a member of her class’s Top Ten and has been honored as a Student of the Month.

She’s actively involved in the Beta Club, the Key Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a HOSA officer. Adeline has excelled in three sports – making the state tournament in cross country, golf, and track.

A regular attendee of Second Baptist Church, she is involved in the singing program, helps with the nursery, and has volunteered at VBS there. She’s a member of the Jr. Fair Board and has been involved in mission work at a troubled boys’ ranch.

With interests in drawing, singing, and playing the guitar, Rice has career aspirations of dental school after college.

Sanchez has an equally glowing resume.

She’s a member of the Beta Club, Key Club, FCA and is a class officer.

Sanchez has been recognized as a member of the Top Ten, has been chosen as a Student of the Month, and had perfect attendance her freshman year. She received the Student Achievement Award as a sophomore.

Daisy attends Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she’s a regular in the youth group and has helped with VBS. She’s also participated in the Feeding of the 5,000 and has assisted with her church’s fish fry.

Sanchez has participated in both cross country and track for the Golden Tornadoes and enjoys horseback riding and painting.

She plans to study at a four-year university and major in business management and administration.

Students will check-in and register at the Hampton Inn in Martin on Thursday of next week, with UT Martin personnel welcoming them and then conducting a walk across the campus Quad. There will be a fine dining experience in the Champions Club Room on Thursday evening before attendees participate in the popular Rec Rampage.

Cary Vaughn, CEO of Love Worth Finding Ministries of Memphis, and Dr. Yancy Freeman, Chancellor at UT Martin, are set to speak on motivational leadership as part of the Friday agenda. Leadership and team building exercises will be coordinated by David Belote of UT Martin’s Office of Student Engagement and Gina McClure, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Residential and Student Life at UTM.

Students will receive scholarship information before their adjournment on Friday.
