Cincinnati, Ohio–Tanner Hudson of Big Sandy today was signed to the active roster of the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bengals today made the announcement of the roster move this morning, signing Tight End Tanner Hudson off the practice squad and onto the active roster. Hudson is a 2013 Camden High School graduate.
The All-Bengals Fan Nation reported that Hudson, 28, has a good rapport with Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow and could serve as the Bengals’ primary pass catching tight end. Cincinnati had an open roster spot after placing rookie running back Chase Brown on injured reserve this week.
Hudson, a fourth-year player out of Southern Arkansas University, was signed to the Bengals’ practice squad in December of 2022. He has been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for two games this season (Week 3 vs. the L.A. Rams and Week 4 at Tennessee), totaling four receptions for 48 yards.
Hudson already has a Super Bowl ring, playing for the Buccaneers team that won Super Bowl LV.
According to the Bengals’ website, Hudson was signed to Cincinnati’s practice squad late in the 2022 season, adding depth and experience to the tight end group. He has played in 33 career games (one start), spending time with Tampa Bay (2019-20), San Francisco (’21) and the N.Y. Giants (’22). Has 15 career catches for 199 yards (13.3 average), with a career-best 10 grabs for 132 yards in 11 games with the N.Y. Giants in 2022 . Was on San Francisco’s practice squad for majority of the 2021 season, but saw action in two regular-season games. Played in 11 regular-season games and all four postseason contests for Buccaneers team that won Super Bowl LV. Entered the NFL as a college free agent signee of Tampa Bay in 2018, and spent his rookie season on the Buccaneers’ practice squad before earning a roster spot for the ’19 campaign. Played in 43 games during a four-year college career at Southern Arkansas University (Division II).
