
Union City, Tenn.–At the Obion County School’s Board Meeting Tuesday night, John Garrett, Obion County Central High School graduate, was recognized as the September Outstanding Alumni. He was nominated for this recognition by many last month after Garrett’s current Bassmaster standing was reported in area and state media. He is currently sitting in 3rd in the Bass Opens Angler of the Year race.
John Garret graduated from OCCHS in 2014 and obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management from Bethel University in 2019. He owns his business, John Garrett Outdoors LLC, and is fishing professionally on the Bassmaster trail, has been running a duck hunting guide service since 2019, and is working on continuing to grow and expand each side of the business each year.
In high school, Garret helped start the Anglers team at Obion County Central High School in 2013. He qualified for the first-ever high school Bassmaster. Had 3 top 5 finishes at the regional and state level and was the Team Captain in 2013 and 2014.
A few notable highlights from his fishing career, post-high school: He qualified for the 2017 Bassmaster Classic, qualified for the 2020 BFL All-American, and was the 2016 College Bass Champion.
Also, he was the number 1 ranked angler according to bassrankings.com through 2015-2019 with a 964.729 finishing average.
