Paris, Tenn.–A ‘Memory Service’ for Paris Artist John Monroe will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Paris Academy for the Arts.

Monroe passed away Saturday, August 5, at a Nashville hospital after an illness.

His long-time friend and fellow artist Dan Knowles said the gathering Sunday will be a ‘Memory Service’ rather than a Memorial Service to honor Monroe. “We’ll be getting together among John’s paintings and we’ll talk about John” at the service, he said.

Monroe came to Paris from California in 1985 and was one of the founders of the local artists’ community. He was a major force in helping establish the Paris Academy as an area arts center.

Knowles said certain pieces of Monroe’s artwork will be offered at half price to help defray expenses.

The Paris Academy for the Arts is on Lee Street, a few blocks from downtown Paris.
