6 Victories Highlight UT Martin Track’s Weekend at Cougar Classic

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field program found plenty of success at the Cougar Classic on Saturday, posting six event victories on the same track in which the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship will be contested on next month.

The Skyhawks picked up event victories in the men’s long jump, 3k, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles and 4×100 relay along with in the women’s 3k steeple.

Cougar Classic Highlights

  • For the second consecutive week, Darius Holland picked up an event championship with his performance in the men’s long jump. Holland posted a distance of 7.49m to mark a new season-best performance.
  • Freshman Ethan Knight won the men’s 3k with a time of 8:38.06 to rank as a new PR.
  • Veteran standout Brady Fry finished first in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 15.05 seconds to outmatch several league competitors.
  • Freshman Ja’Kobe Ward earned a first-place finish in the men’s 400m hurdles after posting a PR with a time of 55.40 seconds.
  • The Skyhawk men’s 4x100m picked up a win in the event as the quartet of Ja’Kobe Ward, Khalid White, Brady Fry and Darius Holland paced the field with a time of 42.35 seconds.
  • Freshman Cierra Nord also picked up an event victory with her work in the women’s 3k steeple. Nord posted a time of 12:09.23 to set a new PR in the event.
  • Sophomore Lydia Tankersley finished second in the women’s 800m field with a time of 2:15.69, setting a new PR after trimming over three seconds off her previous best time this season.
  • Junior Janay Chapman finished third in the women’s 400m dash with a time of 57.93 seconds to set a new PR.
  • Sophomore JayleAna Wyatt also posted a PR of her own in the women’s 400m with a time of 58.64 seconds to finish fourth.
  • Freshman Khalid White finished runner-up in the men’s 100m dash with a time of 10.94 seconds to set a new personal-best time. He later finished fifth in the men’s 200m dash with a time of 22.15 seconds to set his second PR of the meet.

The Skyhawks will return to the track next weekend when competing at the Red Wolves Open in Jonesboro, Ark. on Saturday, Apr. 22 and Sunday, Apr. 23.
