Union City, Tenn.–Union City High School students are getting the opportunity to feed their minds while also feeding their bodies.

A new Lunch and Learn program was recently launched at UCHS, with interested students having the opportunity to discuss and learn about careers from professionals who have worked in those fields.

The program was the idea of Union City High School graduation coach Carolyn Nipp, who plans to have a variety of professionals from different fields and industries speak to students about career options in the coming weeks.

“We will reach out to local companies, businesses and professionals with invitations to come and share their experiences and advise on career choices with our students,” Nipp said. “The opportunities for our students to have meaningful and insightful conversations with successful businesspeople will be invaluable, we believe.”

Daniel Taylor, Instructor of Computer Information Technology at TCAT Northwest – Newbern and a 1998 UCHS alumnus, was the inaugural speaker in the program.

Taylor told of the many programs available at TCAT, particularly focusing on his field of expertise. He relayed how he prepared for his current career and also gave tips on how students might prepare for jobs in the computer technology industry.

Representatives of Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union City will visit the high school campus on Mar. 24 with others tentatively lined up to speak at a later date.

Plans are for the lunches to be held once or twice a month. Seating is limited to 20 students for each of the two lunch periods.

Any area businesses or industry professionals who’d like to join the list of presenters may contact Nipp at nippc@ucboe.net or by calling the high school at (731) 885-2373.
