
Graves County, Ky.–A driver was impaled by a falling tree limb and had to be removed from his vehicle during Friday’s afternoon storms.
Kyle Kirks, age 40, of Lynnville, Ky., was transported to Mercy/Lourdes Hospital after he was removed from the vehicle.
On March 3, 2023, at approximately 2:05 PM, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 11000 block of State Route 97 in reference to a tree falling on a vehicle.
Upon arrival, deputies found a 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck on the side of the roadway. The vehicle had a large tree limb sticking out of the windshield. The limb had entered the vehicle’s windshield and impaled the driver, identified as 40 year old Kyle Kirks of Lynnville, who was still seated in the driver’s seat. Cuba Volunteer Fire Department provided Kirks with medical attention until Mayfield Graves County EMS arrived, along with other individuals that had stopped.
Mayfield / Graves County EMS arrived on the scene and provided medical attention until Kirks was able to be removed from the vehicle. He was then transported by Mayfield / Graves County EMS to Mercy / Lourdes Hospital.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle was southbound on Ky Hwy 97 south of Ky Hwy 94, when the wind blew a large tree branch from a tree next to the roadway. The tree branch fell and went through the vehicle’s windshield striking the driver of the vehicle.
