
Felton B. Mahr, Jr. of Paris, Tennessee, stepped into eternity Monday, Oct. 17, 2022.
Burt was the eldest of five children, born to Felton B. Mahr, Sr. and Ruth Mason Mahr. Burt was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Donald, Ronald, Mason, and his sister: Shirley Hudson. Also preceding him in death was his first wife: Ann Mahr, mother of Felicia and Pamela.
Burt served in the St. Louis Public School System for 40 years as a teacher and administrator. For 25 years, he served on the Board of Directors as a member and board chairman of St. Louis Community Credit Union. He was a Hospital Corpsman HM2 in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard a medical ship.
Following his service, he moved to New York and began his undergraduate degree at N.Y.U. Upon returning to St. Louis he completed his Bachelor’s degree at Harris Stowe State University and Master’s +30 at Washington University. He valued education, teaching and being self-taught. He learned many languages and played the piano.
He believed in good health and maintaining strong physical fitness. He participated in 5K and 10K races as well as learning and teaching judo and karate. Burt loved hunting, fishing, and camping. One of his greatest joys was travel. He regarded people as individuals, always with a kind word and a smile.
Burt is survived by his wife: Linda Mahr, and his children: Felicia Houston, of San Jose, California, Pamela Mahr, of St. Louis, Missouri, Tasha Hensley and husband Jeffrey, Middletown, Ohio, and Trisha Wood and husband Jacob, of Paris, and his son: Felton B. “Bo” Mahr, III and his wife Kristina, also of Paris. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial military service will be held at Parker’s Crossroads Veterans Cemetery with military honors Monday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m.
Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2022, at McEvoy Funeral Home.
