Mr. Charles “Bernard” Downey, 99, of Paris, Tennessee, died Friday, September 23, 2022 at Henry County Medical Center.
Mr. Downey was born Saturday, September 30, 1922 in Lewis County, Tennessee, to Charles Raymond Downey and Francis Morton Downey, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Ward Downey and Joe Downey and his grandchild: Emily Downey.
Bernard was a member of East Wood Church of Christ. He retired from public service of Indiana after 30 years and also retired after 30 years as a farmer.
He married Wilma Cathey Downey Saturday, April 3, 1948. She preceded him in death Thursday, April 29, 2004.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Cathey (Richard) Castle, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; his sons: Gary Downey, of Paris, Tennessee, and Doug (Amy) Downey, of White House, Tennessee; his grandchildren: Steve (Emily) Castle, Jeff (Jill) Castle, Taylor (Bryce) Bumbalough and hid great-grandchildren: Hudson and Emory Castle; Caleb and Brooke Castle.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2022, at Walker Cemetery, with Josh Manning and Ethan Schulte, of East Wood Church of Christ, officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2022.
Burial will be at Walker Cemetery.
Wes Knee, Craig Brown, Bill DeWees, Lance Winders, John McDavid, Caleb Castle, and Charles Neal will serve as pallbearers.
