Obion County, Tenn.–Congratulations to Derek Giffin and Micayla Giffin from Giffin Farms in Obion County for being named Tennessee Farm Bureau Young Farmer of the Year.
In announcing the award, Tennessee Farm Bureau officials said, “This young farming family deserves this award in so many ways – they work throughout the year, growing food, raising cattle, supporting their community through civic engagement, and donating back to the community through their resources, time and knowledge.”
Derek Giffin served on the Obion County Schools Farm to School Planning Team this year, sourcing an entire beef cattle into the school system for the first time in our region, and showcasing his farm through a collaborative video to students in the school system.
The Giffins have been involved in Young Farmers and Ranchers (Obion County). Giffin Farms donated a 1/4 beef for the #GrowFoodChallenge this year.
Micayla posts a regular blog about the farm’s activities on the Giffin Farms website.
Derek and Micayla said, “It was an absolute honor to be named the Tennessee Young Farmers of the Year! We are so humbled and grateful to receive this award. TN Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers and Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation, thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our family with other families just like us. Thank you for the friendships, for the learning opportunities, and for helping us grow as professionals and leaders in our industry.”
