Union City, Tenn.–Union City’s two tennis teams won in decidedly different fashions against Westview Tuesday.
The Lady Tornadoes triumphed in 12 of 13 matches in all on their way to a 7-0 blanking of the visiting Chargers.
UC’s boys, meanwhile, won three singles competitions and then recorded a doubles victory by Charlton Wisener and Alex Del Castillo to pull out a 4-3 triumph.
The Tornadoes got a razor-close 9-8 singles win by Owen Rodgers, a hard-fought 8-6 victory by Kobe Terrell against Jacob Foltz, and an 8-3 triumph by Alex Del Castillo over Nicholas Starrett before the Wisener/Del Castillo 8-6 win against Houston Baker and Nicholas Starrett.
Union City won six of the 10 total matches played.
The Twister girls dominated Martin with Annie Wade, Gracyn Callicott and Davy Frankum all pitching 8-0 singles shutouts.
The doubles teams of Wade and Shelby Bondurant and Callicott/Molly Kizer also cruised without giving up a single game.
Union City is now 8-9 on the girls’ side and 7-6 in boys’ play heading into today’s home matches against Paducah Tilghman.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
UC 8, Milan 6
The Theobald sisters – Marlee and Sophie – both homered in the first inning and Union City held on for its first win in six District 12-AA games.
Marlee Theobald smacked a solo dinger over the leftfield fence before older sibling Sophie circled the bases on an inside-the-park home run two batters later in the opening frame for the Lady Tornadoes, who improved to 12-9 overall.
Marlee Theobald ended up reaching base and scoring four times – twice after hits and two times after walks. Anna Cheatham went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Lainey Barker also had a pair of hits and drove home a run.
Alli Kate Frilling knocked in two runs with a single as UC built an 8-2 lead before the visiting Lady Bulldogs made things interesting with four runs in their last at-bat.
Sophie Theobald gave up just one hit over the first four innings and notched the pitching win to improve to 7-4. Cheatham finished up, getting the final nine outs.
Union City plays host to Gibson County today at 5 p.m.
HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER
UC 3, Obion Central 3
Miguel Sanchez scored late in regulation and the Tornadoes recorded a tie to bring their mark to 5-3-1.
Juan Lopez and Marcos Landeros had first-half goals for Union City, which led 2-1 at the intermission. Riley Caudill assisted on both scores for the Purple and Gold.
Ka’Jaylon Bell recorded three saves in goal for the Twisters.
UC plays at Westview Thursday at 5 p.m.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Gibson Co. 14, UC 3
The Tornadoes led 3-1 after three innings before GC erupted for 13 runs in the final four at bats to hand Union City a District 12-AA loss.
Gibson County pounded out 18 hits against UC hurlers Landon Hauhe and Logan Vincent.
Chase Norton scored two of the Twisters’ three runs, while Hauhe drove in a pair of tallies. Both Hauhe and Tucker Davis had doubles for Union City, which managed just four hits.
The Tornadoes are now 10-14 in all games, 2-5 in the district.
The two teams play again today in Dyer at 6:30 p.m.
