Union City, Tenn.–They got there early and stayed late to register for Union City Schools Thursday.

Preliminary sign-ups for Pre-K and kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year drew a large and steady turnout at UC Elementary, where school officials began the annual process of looking ahead to next year.

Several parents and future Tornadoes were in line before registration began, and they were greeted by faculty and administration in the UCES library.

A number of stations were set up there for both parents and their children. The adults completed paperwork, while there was some initial testing in one-on-one settings between teachers and members of the Classes of 2034 and 2035.

There were plenty of photo opportunities for all involved, spirit wear available for purchase, and snacks were provided.

“To see the looks of excitement and wonderment on their little faces is absolutely priceless,” UCES Principal Allison Palmer said during a break from welcoming prospective parents and students. “Some of the parents are walking onto our campus for the first time, and it was obvious that they felt very comfortable entrusting our teachers and staff with their children.

“Every one of them has a place here. Choosing the place to begin a child’s educational journey is an important decision. And I feel confident in saying that the complete educational experience at Union City Schools is the best there is.”

Final student sign-up numbers were still being calculated at the conclusion of the registration.

Students will still be allowed to register for the two classes until the 2022-23 school year begins in August.
