Union City, Tenn.–Union City High School senior English classes truly “know their stuff.”
A project that spanned several months produced proof of that earlier this week.
Around 90 seniors in English IV and AP English Literature classes offered presentations to faculty, staff, and students as part of the course’s annual “Expert” Museum earlier this week.
Guided by teachers Joanna Wisener, Jodi Powell, and Angelique Killebrew, students chose topics for individual projects last September and completed extensive research gained from eight sources to present their findings.
Various subjects were on display – ranging from arts and sciences to medicine, sports, and social issues – with presenters giving extensive details of their finished product during interactions with various interested parties.
Other classes toured the commons and library areas of UCHS, witnessing the students’ display-board work and interacting with the “authorities” and then asking detailed questions.
“I am always impressed with my seniors when they do the expert project museum. But the class of 2022 has truly done an outstanding job with the entire project all year long,” said Wisener, who has assigned some form of the project for six years now.
“With every step, they connected the new information they learned with the prior knowledge they had attained. They were planning ahead to be very prepared to give strong presentations and have informative and attractive exhibits at the museum.
“They were able to blend academic research skills with communication and time-management skills to put together a very impressive expert project museum this year.”
Students were also required to write a short research paper as part of the project. They will showcase their work to their respective English classes in 10-minute presentations to officially conclude the assignment.
