BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Fresh off a quartet of both individual and doubles victories last weekend in the Show Me State, junior Aziza Aubin of the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis squad accomplished a career-first on Tuesday afternoon by her selection as Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, announced by league officials.

One of the major highlights during the Skyhawks’ bouts against Saint Louis and Chicago State, the third-year player from Sussex, England ramped up her career win tally to 15 in singles competition by defeating the Billikens and Cougars in one-on-one action, 6-3 (repeated) on Friday before a 6-3 and 6-4 result the next day.

Not only was Aubin flawless when competing in singles action, but the junior was just as effective in doubles outings at the Gateway City, teaming up with fellow UK native Amelia Campbell for consecutive wins by 6-2 and 7-6 margins. The upperclassmen duo has now scooped up three W’s in total since the start of the semester in January.

Emerging as the victor in her last five matches collectively, Aubin has asserted herself as one of the most reliable performers on the UTM roster in 2022, part of a team that has gathered 30 singles wins alongside 18 more in tag-team meetings.

Playing each of their first eight matches away from home, the Skyhawks will at last return to Martin this weekend for a pair of non-conference affairs against the Missouri State Bears and Chattanooga Mocs within a 72-hour time frame.

With only four dates on the schedule until OVC play gets underway later in the month of March, UTM will meet Missouri State three days from now under the lights at 5:00 p.m. Chattanooga visits at the tail end of the weekend on Sunday for a 1:00 first serve.
