Puryear, Tenn.–A home in Puryear was destroyed by fire and the resident was reportedly outside when the fire began and escaped injury.
Puryear Fire Chief John Walters said the department was called to 108 School Rd. around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday and again at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday when it rekindled.
Walters said when firefighters arrived, the home was already fully engulfed in flames. “The first afternoon, the fire destroyed most of the roof and the floors were gone, but we were able to save most of the rest of it. The walls were still up at that time,” he said.
When it rekindled, the rest of the structure burned, he said.
Mutual aid in the form of manpower and tankers were provided by Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department and the Paris Fire Department.
