Union City, Tenn.–Ticket information and venues are set for both the Union City High School football and cross country programs which will be involved in state-level play Friday at different locations.
The Golden Tornado football team will play Fairley at J.P. Freeman Stadium in Memphis at 7 p.m. in Round 1 of the Class 2A playoffs.
All advance tickets for the game will be sold via the GoFan digital ticket platform (https://gofan.co/tssaa) for $8 each. Physical tickets will be available at the gate but will cost $10.
UC will come in with a 7-3 record, while the Bulldogs sport an 8-2 mark. The two programs are playing for the third time in the past four years in the postseason, with the Tornadoes winning in 2018 and Fairley winning in 2019.
Union City is in the playoffs for the 17th straight year and the 30th year all-time. The Tornadoes won state titles in 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2017, and additionally have three state runner-up finishes in their illustrious history. Fairley has qualified for the postseason for the 25th time in the history of the program but has never advanced past the quarterfinals.
The winner will play the winner of the Westview-Freedom Prep game in Round 2 next week.
Friday afternoon, the Union City girls’ cross country team will participate at the state level for the first time ever when the best teams in Tennessee gather in Hendersonville for the Class A-AA meet.
Tickets can be purchased online at (https://gofan.co/tssaa) for $12. Those same tickets will cost $15 if bought in-person at the event.
Kennedi Robinson, Bailey Wagoner, Chloe Meade, Lizzy Jones, Daisy Sanchez, Adeline Rice and Myranda Parr make up the Lady Tornado contingent. The group will hit the starting line at 1:20 p.m.
Senior Cedrion Cook will represent the Union City boys, marking his fourth consecutive appearance in the state meet.
The field will start at the Sanders Ferry Park Course at 2:10 p.m.
Union City will get a school send-off at 11:30 Thursday morning before touring the course that afternoon in preparation for the race.
