Weapon Found After Threats To “Shoot Up” Funeral

Dyersburg, Tenn.–An unserialized AR rifle was found hidden under a vehicle after someone threatened to ‘shoot up’ a funeral in progress in Dyersburg Saturday afternoon.

Saturday, around 2:30 p.m., Dyersburg police responded to a weapons complaint at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, East Court.
Officers arrived to discover a large crowd on the church parking lot and street reporting that threats were made to shoot up the funeral that was in progress. While officers were securing the area, multiple individuals reported that one of the armed individuals laid a gun under a vehicle and fled the scene. There were no reported shots fired.
According to the press release, officers recovered an unserialized loaded AR style rifle underneath a parked vehicle. Unserialized weapons, often referred to as ghost guns, are untraceable, and unregulated weapons that are legal to own, purchase, and make. The case remains under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact DPD by calling 311, or the Criminal Investigation Division at 288-7679.
Approximately two hours later, officers responded to Pioneer Road, in reference to shots fired. Officers arrived to discover around six individuals standing in the yard, and an individual across the street identified as Damaris Neal, 21, Dyersburg, arguing with the other individuals. Officers attempted to gather information about the reported shooting, when the individuals became hostile with the officers. Neal made threatening statements to run over an officer. Neal was charged with retaliation for past actions, and was transported from the scene. Neal will appear in Dyersburg City Court today at 4:00 p.m.
