Union City, Tenn.–The 2021 Union City High School volleyball season came to a close Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Westview in the District 13A Tournament semifinals at Gibson County.
The Lady Tornadoes end their season with an 11-9 record after falling 25-23, 25-16 and 26-24 to the Lady Chargers (15-3). Westview will face Halls for the tourney championship Thursday night at GCHS with both teams then moving on to next week’s regional play.
UC and Martin had split a pair of regular-season meetings before Tuesday’s match.
Twister head coach Jessica Graham said afterward that the loss was difficult to accept.
“Giving that last speech is never easy and knowing how bad those girls wanted it made it even harder,” Graham said. “It has been an honor coaching these five seniors for their final season. They are wonderful young women full of so much potential in everything they do.
“I’m excited to see where this next phase takes them.”
Anna Cheatham had 13 kills, five saves and four aces for Union City Tuesday. Raegan Taylor had seven assists, six saves and four kills, while Emma Powell recorded 11 assists.
The Lady Tornadoes were hampered in their efforts by 49 errors.
Cheatham, Taylor, Kaigan Davis, Annie Wade and Sara Ullrich all played their final match in a UCHS uniform as seniors.
Season-wise, Cheatham recorded team-highs in kills (112), aces (87) and blocks (32). Taylor was second with 128 assists and led the club with 71 saves. Davis was close behind Cheatham with 108 kills, while Wade had the squad’s second-most saves (83). Ullrich easily was the team leader in digs with 116.
Powell’s 163 assists were tops in that category.
