Huntingdon, Tenn.–A lengthy pursuit in Carroll County that involved K9s and the THP helicopter resulted in the arrest of a Paris man Wednesday afternoon on charges of attempted aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, felony evading and driving on revoked license.

Arrested was Joshua Cole, age 38 of Paris.

Huntingdon Director of Public Safety Walter Smothers said the incident began at approximately 4:30 a.m. when the vehicle pursuit which began in Clarksburg by a Clarksburg Police Officer came into the Huntingdon City Limits on Highway 22 from the south.

Huntingdon Patrol Officers Patton and Parham joined the pursuit on the bypass toward Highway 70 on the east side of  town.

Officer Parham reported that the fleeing offender attempted to ram his patrol car with the Chevrolet truck he was driving, Smothers said.

Upon approaching the overhead bridge crossing over Highway 70 Cole jumped from his vehicle and ran. His vehicle was not in park and rolled backward off of the roadway.

Smothers said it was initially believed that there were outstanding warrants out for Cole’s arrest but later determined that those charges were dismissed. Clarksburg Officer Tommy Decanter and Huntingdon officers were joined by Carroll County deputies and eventually the Highway Patrol to search the area with dogs and a THP helicopter.

The ground search was terminated at around 11:30 a.m.  Two citizens called in at approximately 2:30  p.m. to report a man walking in that area that matched the description of Cole.

He was taken into custody without incident by Officers of the Carroll County Sheriffs Department and the Huntingdon Police Department. Charges to be sought against Cole are Attempted Aggravated Assault by Motor Vehicle, Felony Evading Arrest and Driving On Revoked Drivers License/Habitual Offender.
