Paris, Tenn.–The 2021 Henry County Fair Book has been dedicated to Dr. Eugene Gulish, a long-time supporter of the fair and volunteer at its livestock shows.

Fair officials said the annual discussion on to whom the fair book should be dedicated is always a good one and officials are always looking for someone who has supported and dedicated their time to the fair and the community.

Dr. Gulish “truly fits these qualities and more”, they said.

Dr. Gulish was graduated from Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio, in 1955, and from there graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor of science degree. He earned his masters degree in science from The Ohio State University and his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1964.

His residency took him to LAC-USC Medical Center in California and there he began his career as an Orthopedic Surgeon. He served as Chief of Staff at Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastopol, California, during his time there.

Dr. Gulish was drafted into the U.S. Army as a Major during the Vietnam War, serving at Fort Polk, La., where many wounded soldiers were sent. He received the Army Commendation Medal in 1971.

In 1994, he came to the Henry County Medical Center, moving his family to Henry County and building the Henry County Orthopedic Surgery. He served as HCMC Chief of Staff in 1999 and 2000 and retired in January of 1917. Retirement didn’t last long, however, as he went to work for McKenzie Medical Center before retiring—again–in 2020.

Over the years, Dr. Gulish has participated in many medical mission trips to locations including Nigeria, Tanzania and Haiti and has visited all seven continents.

On September 23, 1967, he married Christina, an RN whom he met during his residency. They have five children: Heather, Erin, Laurel, Jessie and Kris; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild with another due any day.

All of their children work in the medical field.

Together, Dr. Gulish and Chris established the Laurel Hill Cattle Co., where they live and raise cattle.

Dr. Gulish became a member of the Henry County Fair Board in 1996. He has served as President and Chairman of the Registered and Commercial Beef Shows and supported the Junior Livestock program.

His children participated in the Junior Livestock program and his grandchildren have continued that participation.

The Henry County Fair will return in full force this year from August 8-14.
