UC Police Chief Thinks Bond Too Low In Shooting Case

Union City, Tenn.—Bond for the Union City man who is accused in a shooting death over the weekend was set at $100,000 in a court hearing yesterday, which caused the police chief dismay, telling the judge he thought the bond was too low.

At the arraignment before Obion County Court Judge Jimmy Smith, Smith set the bond for Deshawn Markee Taylor, age 19, 914 N. Division St., at $100,000.

Taylor was charged with Second Degree Murder in the shooting death Friday night of Dennis Neisler, age 26, of Union City. Neisler was shot to death while he sat in his car in the parking lot of the East Gate housing complex.

Immediately after the hearing, Barfield told Judge Smith he felt the bond was too low. Barfield told WENK/WTPR this morning that the judge responded that he set the bond at $100,000 because the charge was second degree murder and that everyone is entitled to bond.

Barfield said he believes that Taylor is a danger to the public and the bond should be higher.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for November 3.
