UC’s state travel party
grows larger in track
Union City track and field added another handful of state-bound athletes to the list of Spring Fling participants after sectional wildcards were determined Tuesday.
Kylie McCadney and Chanyah Liphford will add another event to their slate, having qualified for the 200. Ada Rogers will also compete in the 100 hurdles after making it as part of two Lady Tornado relay teams on Monday.
Brooklyn Murphy got a bid in the discus for the UC girls.
Damon Rice qualified in both the triple jump and long jump on the boys’ side.
Harris Cagle will join teammates Neil Brown and Carter Bondurant as a participant in the shot put, and Kweli Purifoy will now be a part of the high jump field.
The field events begin at 9 a.m. next Tuesday at Rockvale High School, near Murfreesboro. Running events competition is set to start at 4 p.m.
Tornado boys’ basketball
honors 2020-21 standouts
Several members of the 2020-21 Union City High School boys’ basketball team were honored recently at a get-together at head coach Shane Sisco’s home.
Among those receiving accolades were: (see photo)
(From left) Ben McMillan (Best 3-Point Percentage, Best Free Throw Percentage, Most Points Scored and Most 3-Pointers Made); Neil Brown (Best 2-Point Percentage, Most Rebounds); Taylan Tribble (Comeback Player of the Year); and Carter Walton (Most Charges Taken and Most Steals). Ben Martinek (not pictured) received the Tornado Award.
Union City finished 21-9 and made the Class 1A sectionals for a second straight season.
Parent meeting scheduled
for UCMS football players
UC Middle School head football coach Cole Clanton will meet with the parents of players on his team May 27 at 6:15 p.m. in the Purple and Gold Room.
Clanton will review the summer practice schedule for his troops as well as team rules and the 2021 schedule for the Tornadoes.
All parents of players are strongly encouraged to attend.
Tryouts for UCHS baseball
set for morning of May 26
Tryouts for the 2022 Union City High School baseball team have been set for Wednesday, May 26, at 9 a.m.
The session will be held at L.H. Ladd Field. In case of rain, it will be moved to the turf building on the UCHS campus.
Players should bring their own equipment and workout clothing.
Those interested who previously played on the middle school level may sign up in the office of UCMS.
