Union City Welcomes Karl Ullrich As New Fire Chief; Honors Retiring Chief Edmison

Union City, Tenn.–Meeting in regular session Tuesday night, the Union City City Council honored retiring Fire Chief Kelly Edmison and officially welcomed new Fire Chief Karl Ullrich.

Edmison is retiring after many years of service with the fire department and the city. City officials presented him with a keepsake and wished him the best in his retirement.

City officials officially welcomed Ullrich as the new Chief. He was selected from 15 applicants and started his firefighting career in Martin. He came to Union City in 1999 as a firefighter and was promoted to Captain in 2006.

Ullrich also serves as Chairman of the Union City Board of Education, is on the Board of Trustees for the Tennessee Risk Management Trust and is a former Boy Scout leader, Cub Scout leader and Eagle Scout.

He and his wife Genie have two adult sons, Karl II and Robert, and two daughters, Carol and Sara, who attend UCHS.

City officials also announced that Union City is the recepient of a $500,000 THDA Home Rehab Grant. The grant will allow the city to provide funds for fixing up houses that need it for free and even building new ones when warranted.

Public announcement will be made in the near future on how to apply for the funds.
