Union City, Tenn.– Discovery Park of America visitors are in for a treat this month as an extraordinary group of larger than life animated insects have moved in for a three month stay from today, Friday, October 13 through Sunday, January 7th, 2018.
The gigantic insects are manufactured in Los Angeles by Kokoro Dinosaurs using the latest robotic technology. A computer-controlled air compressor gives each insect its own unique sequence of movement and sound. The exhibit is called, BUGS! Larger than Life and is a fun and fascinating display of gigantic insects.
Six larger than life sized insects, including a Praying Mantis, Desert Locust, two Atlas Beetles, a Stick Insect and Swallowtail caterpillar are featured in the exhibition. Informative descriptions enhance the exhibition’s educational value. Classes and special programs on these and other insects will give aspiring entomologists a chance to collect facts on these amazing insects.
Jennifer Wildes, Exhibit Director for the museum, has been working with her team to put the finishing touches on the exhibit this week. “We have added some live insects, with the help of Kayce King and our Wildlife Department staff,” Wildes explained. “And we plan to have photo booth with three different backgrounds to choose from, so that parents can enjoy a photo keepsake after their visit,” she added. “We are excited about this new traveling exhibit and hope that everyone in the area will take advantage of having a traveling exhibit of this caliber so close, and will come out and enjoy and learn from it.”
A sold-out VIP dinner kicked off the exhibit Thursday night. Approximately 170 guests enjoyed slimy worm spaghetti, bug juice and other thematic food items, and were among the first to see the new exhibit. The dinner was sponsored by Servall Pest Control out of Martin.
