Union City, Tenn.–The postseason honors continue to come in for Wes Tilghman.
Already named the Best Offensive Player in Region 7-2A and also having been selected to the West Tennessee High School All Star game, the Union City High School quarterback has now been named to the Tennessee High School Football Coaches Association All State team.
He was one of four quarterbacks chosen for the Class 2A squad and was one of nine players picked for the honor from Region 7-2A.
Tilghman piled up more than 2,000 all-purpose yards for the Golden Tornadoes during the 2020 campaign.
He rushed for 1,447 yards and 19 touchdowns, threw for another 251 yards and a score and also shined as a kick returner for the Purple and Gold, which finished with a 6-5 record and made it to the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
Tilghman additionally served as the Twisters’ punter and emerged as one of the team’s top tacklers over the last month of the season.
UC head coach Nick Markle was thrilled with the news of Tilghman’s latest honor.
“He was a great player for our program, but an even better teammate,” Markle said. “He’s a young man that was willing to do whatever needed to be done for our team to be successful. He was on all special team units, he was our punter, he was a crucial part of our defense in the latter half of the season and he was a first time signal caller for our offense.
“Wes never cared about his own accolades, only the success of the team. That’s the type of player any coach loves the opportunity to coach. He definitely deserves this honor and we all are proud of him and this past season’s team.”
