Greenfield Students Reenact Iwo Jima Flag Ceremony

All of Greenfield School took to the streets today for Veterans’ Day, with students reenacting the American flag being planted at Iwo Jima. The community’s veterans followed the Greenfield Fire Department in the parade and sported gifts of U.S. flags.

Elsewhere in Weakley County, Dresden Middle School Principal David Lewellen credited school counselor Jamie Rickman with the “out of the box thinking” that transferred the traditional Veterans Day celebration from the stage to the street. COVID-19 did not hamper the students’ enthusiasm as they welcomed local vets to their campus by way of a drive-through celebration. The students prepared care packages and notes of appreciation for their service.

Observances were also held at Sharon and Martin Schools.
